Humboldt Petroleum Acquired by Peninsula

EUREKA, Calif. -- Peninsula Petroleum, owned by M.J. Castelo and famed Indy racers Mario and Michael Andretti, purchased Humboldt Petroleum and its 16 gas stations Thursday, reported the Eureka Times Standard .

In addition to its new Humboldt and Del Norte acquisition, Peninsula Petroleum, based in Redwood City, Calif., owns and operates gas and convenience store facilities under the Shell brand in the Monterey, Calif. area.

"We are pleased with the union of these two very outstanding and credible organizations," said Bob Wotherspoon, president of Humboldt Petroleum. "This combination ensures continuity in the organization and continued service excellence and quality products for our loyal customers."

Humboldt Petroleum was founded in 1972 by Bob Wotherspoon. The company is composed of Shell, Gas 4 Less and Valero brand gas stations and convenience stores stretching from Crescent City to Garberville, Calif. A Humboldt Petroleum rep said Thursday that current owners Wotherspoon and Jim Seiler plan to retire with the rest of the company’s employees remaining on staff.

Humboldt Petroleum will continue to be headquartered in Eureka, Calif.
