Hy-Vee to Begin Construction on New Hybrid Small-Format Concept
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee plans to build a new small-format store to serve as a pick-up point for online grocery orders.
The combined market and gas station is planned for the Jordan Creek Town Center development in Hy-Vee's headquarters city of West Des Moines, Iowa, and might also include a quick-serve restaurant, reported the Des Moines Register.
The company is reportedly considering the name "Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh" for the concept, which would be 12,000 to 16,000 square feet and include groceries, a fueling station and potentially a coffee shop, said company spokeswoman Tara Deering-Hansen.
Construction is expected to begin this summer or fall.
The new concept would expand Hy-Vee's online grocery shopping program, Hy-Vee Aisles Online. The service is currently growing among the chain's existing stores, and Hy-Vee recently opened a fulfillment center in suburban Des Moines to supply it.
Hy-Vee operates both convenience stores and grocery stores in eight Midwestern states: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
