KenJo Expands
MARYVILLE. Tenn. -- KenJo Inc., a subsidiary of Downey Oil Co. and operator of 26 stores, has entered into an agreement with London-based BP plc. to acquire 10 BP stations in Knoxville, Tenn. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
All 10 stations will be rebranded KenJo Markets and continue to sell BP gasoline, KenJo owner Charles Carruthers told The Knoxville News-Sentinel.
"Customers should not notice a drastic change," Carruthers said. "The fuel will not change and customers can still use their credit cards."
Ken Smithers, president of Downey Oil Co. and vice president of KenJo Markets, added: "We hope to increase the number of items and do a better job of service. We are hometown folks, those places were run by large organizations. We should be able to make it a more hometown store."
Smithers said KenJo has rehired the 85 employees that worked for BP.
