Kroger Commended for Hiring Practices

CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co. was recognized as Employer of the Year by the Ohio Governor's Council on People with Disabilities for its efforts to provide employment opportunities to disabled individuals.

The Cincinnati-based operator of convenience stores, supermarkets and multi-department stores was nominated by the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and received the award during a ceremony at the Ohio Statehouse on Oct. 16.

"We have a long tradition of hiring people with disabilities, especially on our front lines serving customers," said Keith Dailey, Kroger's director of corporate communications. "Kroger is honored to receive this recognition from the Governor's Council on People with Disabilities and the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities."

Kroger was also recognized earlier this year by the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities. The retailer works with the foundation's Bridges from School to Work program, which helps transition young people with disabilities from high school to the workforce.

Kroger operates 785 convenience stores in 19 states, under six banners: Kwik Shop, Loaf N' Jug, Quik Stop Markets, Tom Thumb Food Stores, Turkey Hill Minit Markets and Smith's Express.
