Kwik Trip Donates $50,000 to Sponsor Honor Flight
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- A $50,000 donation from Kwik Trip Inc. will make it possible for another 100 veterans to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., on the "Kwik Trip Freedom Honor Flight," WXOW-TV reported.
Kwik Trip and Kwik Star convenience stores in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin will serve as collection sites for donations during a fundraising effort to be held Feb. 12-25, the report stated.
"These gentlemen and women made these sacrifices not because they were looking to become heroes or do something famous. They were doing it in their own words because 'It was the right thing to do,'" said John McHugh, corporate communications manager for the convenience store chain. "If we can repay them in these final years of their lives by giving them a flight out to Washington, D.C., to see a monument dedicated to their hard work and sacrifice, we think that's consistent with our mission trip at Kwik Trip."
The "Kwik Trip Freedom Honor Flight" trip is scheduled for May 8. Another 300 veterans are on the waiting list to be part of a future honor flight.
Money raised through the Kwik Trip fundraiser will benefit the hub that serves the area in which the store is located. People who wish to support Freedom Honor Flight can donate at their local Kwik Trip, Tobacco Outlet, Hearty Platter and Kwik Star stores during the campaign or anytime online at www.freedomhonorflight.org.
