Kwik Trip Plans Move Onto UW-Madison Campus

MADISON, Wis. -- Kwik Trip Inc. plans to open a 6,500-square-foot convenience store without a gas station on the first floor of the University of Wisconsin (UW)–Madison's Varsity Quarters apartment building, the Wisconsin State Journal reported. The building is currently under construction and scheduled to open with the Kwik Trip in August.

The new store, to be located at 1423 Monroe St., will bring Kwik Trip back to the city after nearly seven years away, and rely on foot traffic in the heavily student-populated area.

"We have experience with stores that are located near a campus, but this is taking it up another level with the student population of Madison and the foot traffic it will generate," said Kwik Trip spokesman Steve Wrobel. "It's going to be an exciting opportunity for us. We have not built [a store] in an environment like that."

Kwik Trip has traditional c-stores with gas pumps near the UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout campuses.

The new Kwik Trip location will offer a wide range of groceries, hot and prepared food, bakery items, and beer. Additionally, customers will be able to make their own parfaits at a yogurt bar.

"It's going to be a great grocery boutique for the residents to have," said Varsity Quarters Property Manager Samantha Brady. "It's definitely an advantage for them to have this right downstairs in their building."

Kwik Trip's application for an alcohol license for the store is slated for review in June, according to the report.
