Love's, Pilot Pump Up DEF Prices

NATIONAL REPORT -- Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and Pilot Flying J have both increased the price of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) by 10 cents per gallon, according to a Discover DEF.com report.

The dime-per-gallon price hike comes on the heels of Kost USA, one of the largest DEF distributors, lifting its prices by 21 cents per gallon, the website stated.

All of the price increases are likely due to the recent rising cost of urea, the raw material that DEF is composed of.

According to the news outlet, Pilot has 258 locations offering DEF at the pump, which comprises 55 percent of the total bulk DEF pump network in North America.

Love's -- which made its price increase effective on May 7 -- is responsible for 27 percent of the North American bulk DEF pump network. Love's has 127 locations with bulk DEF at the pump, the news source reported.

DEF is a reactant designed specifically for use in SCR systems to reduce NOx emissions.
