MAPCO Finds Payment Solution

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Keeping pace with the high-speed transaction demands of the convenience store industry, MAPCO Express has entered into a partnership with Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Corp. to handle its payment processing.

Fifth Third Bank's electronic payment processing division will provide processing for Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit and debit card transactions. In addition to these services, MAPCO will utilize Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) and Fleet Card processing, as well as Premier Issue, Fifth Third's gift card program.

MAPCO Express has grown into a network of 243 convenience stores with 2,000 employees in various locations throughout Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana and Virginia.

The benefit of the new partnership, said Edward Morgan, treasurer for MAPCO, is that Fifth Third offers personalized support available through its interactive, Internet-based system.

"With this back-office system, we'll be able to integrate our 243 locations with transaction history, chargeback management, custom reporting, auditing and reconciliation tools, as well as various fraud controls," Morgan said. "We are confident this solution will help to organize operations and have a positive impact on our bottom line."
