McDonald's Delivery to Expand to 3,500 Restaurants
OAK BROOK, Ill. — McDonald's Corp. will offer delivery at more than 3,500 restaurants in the United States by the end of June.
This more than doubles the number of locations at which delivery was previously available. As of mid-May, third-party delivery service was available at more than 1,000 U.S. restaurants, reported CNBC.
Delivery is currently available at more than 2,000 restaurants, McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook told shareholders at a Bernstein investor conference on May 31.
"We are encouraged by early results in the U.S. where delivery is resonating well, particularly with our younger customers," Easterbrook said.
The company's partnership with UberEats is facilitating the rapid expansion.
Easterbrook noted that in the U.S., 60 percent of delivery orders were placed in the evening or late at night. On average, they arrived within 30 minutes.
The fast food chain already has established delivery services in Asia and the Middle East. At these restaurants, delivery can make up 40 percent of sales.
Globally, McDonald's made nearly $1 billion in delivery sales in 2016.
