McLane Brings POMS Applications to Mobile Devices

TEMPLE, Texas — McLane Co. Inc. introduced its Premium Order Management Suite (POMS) application, intended to give convenience store retailers the benefit of executing their ordering, receiving, inventory, reclamation and delivery management at a much faster rate, from their mobile device.

Grocery Mobile is the name of McLane's POMS, which is available for Android and Apple iOS mobile devices.

Vintners Distributors LLC is one c-store operator that adopted Grocery Mobile’s Ordering and Store-Level Receiving apps earlier this year. Vintners stated it has since reduced order check-in time by 60 percent.

“The average time it takes to check in an order has gone from an hour and a half to 20 or 30 minutes,” said Randall Aycock, director of marketing for Vintners. “We were way behind the eight ball when it came to technology. Essentially, we were still manually checking in an order similar to how people did it 50 years ago. Take the invoice, try to find the box, match the box with the invoice, and cross it off.”

According to McLane, it will introduce more apps in the coming weeks to further help enable customers manage their entire supply chain in real-time from a mobile device.

“Our customers are in the business to sell products, not buy or maintain technology,” said Deon Johnson, McLane’s vice president of customer technology. “They want us to provide easy-to-use software solutions no one else is providing that can be taken advantage of now, not six months or a year from now. Our mobile solution alleviates some of their costs and allows them to save time. It’s a value-add for our customers unlike any other in the industry.”

Temple-based McLane Co. Inc. is one of the largest supply chain services providers, offering grocery and foodservice solutions for convenience stores, mass merchants, drugstores, and chain restaurants throughout the United States. It is a wholly owned unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
