MCX Expands CurrentC Test in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX) expanded its mobile payment platform for use at Columbus Kmart, Sam’s Clubs, Sears and Walmart locations, and will soon expand the technology offering to Exxon, Mobil and Shell gas stations in Ohio’s capital city.

CurrentC was first made available in Columbus in September at CVS/pharmacy, Giant Eagle, Giant Eagle Market District, Target and Wendy’s stores.

“Our goal is to deliver real value to consumers, incentivizing them to use and keep using CurrentC,” Merchant Customer Exchange CEO Brian Mooney said during his keynote speech at the Electronic Transaction Association’s Strategic Leadership Forum. “By creating the best experience for consumers at every merchant in our network, we think CurrentC can bring consumers and merchants closer together by delivering meaningful and personalized experiences.”

CurrentC can provide coupons for particular items and apply merchant incentives in one transaction, Mooney added.

In total, 150 Columbus locations now offer CurrentC, which does not include Exxon, Mobil and Shell, which are about to come on board.

Dallas-based Merchant Customer Exchange’s owner-members include several convenience store chains, such as 7-Eleven Inc.
