More C-store Chains Join Merchant Customer Exchange
FAIRFAX, Va. -- More retailers, including two leading convenience store operators, have signed on to be part of the Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX).
Joining the growing roster of MCX retailers are ExxonMobil Corp., Kum & Go LC, Giant Eagle Inc. and Rite Aid Corp. With these new member additions, more than 50 merchants are now part of MCX, representing more than 100,000 locations and more than $1 trillion in payments annually, according to the tech company.
According to an ExxonMobil statement, customers at Exxon- and Mobil-branded retail fuel stations will be able to use their smartphones to purchase goods and services through a secure, personalized payment method that provides special offers, promotions and other services from participating merchants.
"Consumers today rely on their mobile devices to help them with a number of personal tasks, including shopping," said John Rhodes, Americas retail director for ExxonMobil. "By joining MCX, we're providing Exxon- and Mobil-branded station customers with an easy and secure method for mobile payment. Our new relationship with MCX represents a continuing commitment to improve the buying experience for drivers visiting Exxon and Mobil stations throughout the United States."
Other convenience store chains already signed on with MCX include Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., 7-Eleven Inc., Phillips 66, Alon USA, QuikTrip Corp., Sheetz Inc. and Wawa Inc.

Dallas-based MCX was formed in 2012 to create a mobile wallet technology and mobile payment app with the purpose of offering consumers a single mobile commerce platform that would work at a variety of merchants. Initially, MCX's mobile wallet will be primarily bar code- and cloud-based.
