Murphy USA Launches Lottery Sales at the Pump

EL DORADO, Ark. — Murphy USA Inc. partnered with Linq3 to introduce Play at the Pump at two locations, with many more sites to come onboard.

Play at the Pump allows customers to purchase lottery tickets directly at the pump, without walking into a convenience store. Stores in Buffalo, Minn., and Osage Beach, Mo., are the first Murphy USA locations to go live with the technology platform. The retailer promised many more sites will offer the feature in the coming weeks.

According to Atlanta-based Linq3, manufacturer of the technology platform, Play at the Pump is a great way to grow revenues at the forecourt as many motorists come to a gas station only to fill up their tank.

"We are excited to launch Play at the Pump at our sites and the opportunity it brings to reach new customers for the jackpot games," said Steve Desautels, category manager for Murphy USA. "People who have busy lifestyles and are always on the go will now have a quick and easy way to buy their lottery tickets while they fuel up."

Play at the Pump enables motorists to play Mega Millions or Powerball, where allowed by law. Prizes up to the taxable limit — in several states, $600 — are automatically credited back to the customer's payment card.

The technology platform also accepts consumer cell phone numbers so that a player can receive selected lottery numbers on their smartphone, and the system also alerts them when a prize is won. In addition, Play at the Pump verifies a customer's age to ensure they are of the proper age to purchase lottery tickets.

"It has been great working with Murphy USA," said Daniel Cage, CEO of Linq3. "They are always on the cutting-edge and looking for new ways to serve their customers. We value their partnership and look forward to rolling Play at the Pump out at many more Murphy USA sites in the near future."

As of Dec. 31, El Dorado-based Murphy USA Inc. operated 1,263 convenience stores and gas stations.

Linq3 is a technology solution provider working in collaboration with its partners and lotteries to provide a cost-efficient, socially responsible and secure new option for lottery sales.
