New Hostess Products Target Hispanics
Interstate Bakeries Corp. will add a little Hispanic flavor to its Hostess brand. Las Delicias de Hostess, a line of 10 new snack cakes, will be launched in San Diego, Dallas and Phoenix, according to a report in the Kansas City Business Journal.
The line features pastelitos, or cakes flavored with pineapple, strawberry or chocolate; panque, or mini-pound cakes, with strawberry and pineapple fillings; cupcakes with pineapple or dulce de leche fillings; and concha, a chewy yeast roll with sugar topping.
Advertising for the line will run in Spanish-language media in the three markets through November. The products will be sold in grocery stores, supermarkets and convenience stores.
The new offerings accompany a new look for Hostess products in California, Arizona and Nevada. Last month, the company said it was updating the packaging for such well-known products as Twinkies, CupCakes and DingDongs. Hostess said the new packaging will go nationwide by the end of the year.
Interstate Bakeries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. In recent months, the company has closed and consolidated bakery operations and moved to react more quickly to consumer trends, such as its recent launch of a whole-grain version of Wonder Bread.
