New Nicotine-Laced Water Skirts Anti-Smoking Legislation

Nico Worldwide has introduced a lemon flavored water beverage called Nic Lite, which contains 4 milligrams of nicotine, no calories, fat or sugar, according to the company's Web site.

Nic Lite is designed to tide over smokers when they are in places that smoking is prohibited, such as airports, bars, at work and other public places.

Nic Lite debuted at Los Angeles International Airport after seven years of research, as a way to help smokers fight cravings while on planes. Currently, Nic Lite is stocked in some c-stores, according to the distributors Web site, nichonia.com.

Although similar nicotine laced products like chewing gum is meant for people trying to quit smoking. Nic Lite is classified as a "dietary supplement" by the FDA and is not meant to help quit smoking, only serve as a replacement for cigarettes when consumers can not smoke, the company said.

The product, like other tobacco products, can only be purchased by people over the age of 18.
