Nice N Easy Answers City's Call for New Super C-store

BREWERTON, N.Y. -- The Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppe & Easy Street Eatery that threw opened its doors at 5 a.m. yesterday is a perfect example of the community and a business working together.

According to Matt Paduano, vice president of category management at Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, there was a need in the community for a store with more grocery offerings than a typical convenience store. The Brewerton town supervisor met with CEO John MacDougall and asked the convenience store operator if the Nice N Easy could do something with the site at 5565 Bartell Rd. to fill that need. He added that the company did a lot of research with Nielsen and developed a model that emphasized the groceries, fresh meats and product that the community was requesting.

The new 6,700-square-foot mini-grocery store is the end result. "We added 1,000 additional grocery, frozen, dairy and cooler SKUs for this location," Paduano told CSNews Online. The store also sells fresh beef and pork products, and a full-line grocery distributor supplies the store, he added.

And in a little more than 24 hours "early response has been great," he said.

The mini-grocery is a new model for the Canastota, N.Y.-based retailer and the new Brewerton location is the largest store to date in its portfolio. However, Nice N Easy recognizes that this format is not for all future locations, Paduano said.

This new store includes a full-service Easy Street Eatery with an expanded seating area offering freshly prepared hot and cold food items and a produce department. In addition, take-home meals will be offered every day.

On the forecourt, Nice N Easy installed 10 fueling positions and a diesel facility to service over the road trucks will be coming soon. It will be located where the previous Brewerton Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppe was located, according to the company.

"We're excited about our new store in Brewerton," said Nice N Easy President and CEO John MacDougall. "We rebuilt a beautiful new store next door and this Shoppe is the largest we have ever built. We have expanded many sections in this store to serve the community well."
