Party Planning with the Captain

NEW YORK -- Diageo, maker of Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, has unveiled a new Web site -- -- inviting adult consumers to "dress up and get down" this Halloween.

The site offers tips for both party planners and attendees to have a memorable Halloween experience, including costume ideas and costume ordering, Halloween-inspired cocktail recipes and party-planning tips. In addition, the site hosts a variety of Halloween costume mistakes, including incomplete, awkward and sight-prohibitive costumes.

"If you've had bad luck with costumes in the past, you know that the key to a legendary Halloween celebration starts with a good costume," said Brad Essig, brand director for Captain Morgan. "Good costumes are memorable and spark conversation. Bad costumes can turn your Halloween celebration into a nightmare."

In an effort to reduce those costume nightmares, the Web site suggests five tongue-in-cheek ready-to-wear costumes including the Deviled Egg, First Class Male, Venetian Blind, Little White Lies and Hold the Mustard. It also features comical last-minute costume ideas.

The site also recommends three Halloween cocktail drinks, including Vampire's Blood, Mummy Rummy and Rum Plasma, all made with Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum.

Almost three quarters of adult consumers plan to buy a Halloween costume and dress up this year, according to the National Retail Federation's Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey. For consumers aged 25 to 34, 76.5 percent will dress up, and 71.3 percent of adults aged 35 to 44 plan to wear a costume this Halloween.
