JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Valero Energy Corp. elected Philip J. Pfeiffer to the company's board of directors, bringing the number of directors to 12.
Pfeiffer is of counsel in Fulbright & Jaworski's San Antonio office, where he was partner-in-charge for 25 years and led the office's labor and employment practice. Through his 40-year career with the firm, he assisted employers in traditional management-union matters, complex civil rights, employment discrimination cases, affirmative action compliance, employment torts, alternative dispute resolution, employment contracts and ERISA litigation.
Pfeiffer is also a state qualified mediator in Texas, serving as a mediator in employment and civil rights cases, including class actions. He holds a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University, as well as a juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
In addition to his professional life, he has served on the board of directors of many non-profit organizations, including the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, St. Mary's University, Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio Medical Foundation and the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Chute Gerdeman
Chute Gerdeman is expanding its studio by bringing Kathleen Allen on board as designer, brand communications.
Allen will be a key member in the brand and graphic design capabilities of the firm, focusing on in-store communications programs and developing brand personalities. She is a 2011 graduate of the Ohio State University Department of Design and previously served as an intern and freelance consultant at Chute Gerdeman.
Chute Gerdeman has also hired Maureen Capretta as designer, retail environments. In addition to her creative role, she will focus on design development and reinforcing the studio's 3D-modeling capabilities.
Capretta joins Chute Gerdeman from Limited Brands, where she worked in store design and construction. She is a 2010 graduate of the University of Cincinnati's School of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, and also worked at Chute Gerdeman as an intern.
AdvancePierre Foods
Michael Sims is joining AdvancePierre Foods as its chief financial officer. Sims most recently spent more than two decades in a variety of accounting and finance roles with Chiquita Brands International Inc., including the last two and a half years as its senior vice president and CFO.
According to AdvancePierre CEO Bill Toler, Sims brings the right combination of strong financial experience coupled with food industry background.
"AdvancePierre Foods has tripled in sales over the last two years, merging with and acquiring strong partner companies [that] have greatly expanded our quality product mix and distribution channels for customers," Toler said. "Mike's financial leadership with capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and financial operations make him a great fit for our strategic plans in the coming years."
Advantage Waypoint LLC
Advantage Waypoint LLC added Mike Hamblin as its new director of national accounts, effective immediately. He heads the national account team for Advantage Waypoint and provides clients and chain accounts a single point of contact with access to all of Advantage Waypoint's resources for a nationally consistent multi-unit, go-to-market strategy.
With a background that includes senior-level national account responsibilities, most recently at Wayne Farms, Hamblin brings 20 years of national account experience to this new position. His background also includes senior-level national account positions with ConAgra, Tyson and General Foods.
Hamblin will be based out of Atlanta within the Southeast Division of Advantage Waypoint.
The PCI Security Standards Council
Michael Mitchell has been appointed chairperson of the PCI Security Standards Council for the 2012 term. Mitchell is vice president, Global Network Operations for American Express.
He succeeds Eduardo Perez, head of global payment system risk, Visa Inc., who held the position for the 2011 term.
"2012 will bring a number of new challenges and opportunities for the council and its stakeholders," Mitchell said. "From continuing to evaluate how emerging payment technologies affect the PCI Standards, to working with stakeholders to best leverage their insights through our feedback period, this is going to be an exciting year. As chairperson, I look forward to working with the council, our board of advisors and more than 600 participating organizations to improve cardholder data security."
With 15 years at American Express, Mitchell has extensive experience managing global processes and programs designed to improve payment security. In his current role as vice president of global network operations, he is responsible for the secure processing of payment data throughout the entire transaction lifecycle. This includes information security policy, numerous risk management functions and global compliance operations.
