Phillips 66 Awards Free Fuel to 'Local Legends'

HOUSTON -- With gas prices creeping higher, three motorists have hit the jackpot -- free gas for a year from Phillips 66. The three grand prizes were awarded as part of the gas station chain's Local Legends online video competition.

Phillips 66 held the contest last year to find areas where loyal customers are experts and name them as official "Local Legends." To personally connect with its fans, the brand asked patrons in five states -- Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas -- to submit a personal video of their special talent for a chance to win weekly, monthly, sweepstakes and grand prizes. More than 200 consumers submitted videos during the seven-month campaign, with the top three winners receiving the grand prizes of Phillips 66 gas for a year in the form of $500 Phillips 66 gas cards.

"At Phillips 66, we're passionate about two things -- the performance gasoline we produce and the people in the places where we do business. We wanted to celebrate our customers and applaud them for what they do best," said Tami Walker, manager, U.S. Fuels Brand Management. "The Local Legends contest was a fun and different way for us to engage with our patrons, and we look forward to finding more 'Local Legends' in the future."

Of the winning videos, Hannibal, Mo., resident Chris Dryden's "Phillips 66 Pool Trick Shots" came in first. Rounding out the top five were: Ken Danley (Amarillo, Texas) for "Hands on the Wheel Harmonica Man"; Richard Dinkela (St. Peters, Mo.) for "Route 66 Rich"; David Werth (Albuquerque, N.M.) for "Inverted Tail Grab"; and John Hagerty (Kirkwood, Mo.) for "Phillips 66 Marshmallow Tricks".

In addition, Hagerty will be featured in an upcoming Phillips 66 advertisement, which will begin airing Feb. 27 in Amarillo, Albuquerque and Kansas City.

"I'm a loyal fan of my Phillips 66 gas station and enjoyed showing off my talents in the Local Legends contest," Hagerty said. "I had a great time recording my video, and it was awesome to receive a $500 Phillips 66 gas card."

The Phillips 66 gasoline brand is owned by ConocoPhillips and sold at more than 3,000 retail fuel sites in the United States.
