Pilot Flying J Acquires Minnesota Travel Plaza

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Pilot Flying J recently acquired an Alexandria, Minn., travel plaza, which it will remodel to include its full amenities for professional drivers and the general public. The location will remain open during the remodeling, which is expected to be completed this July.

The 10,200-square-foot Flying J plaza will feature high-speed fuel dispensers at four gasoline lanes and four diesel lanes, as well as diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) at the pump. Interior features include a Subway restaurant; fax and copy services; Western Union check cashing services and ATM; 60 parking spaces for cars; and general merchandise for sale. A fifth diesel fuel lane will be added during renovations. Professional drivers will have access to a CAT scale, Transflo, six automated showers and 80 parking spaces for trucks.

"We believe our familiar Flying J sign will be a welcome sight for interstate travelers and professional drivers. They'll want to pull off to fill up, refresh and sample some of our featured food items like fresh deli sandwiches and Oscar Mayer hot dogs," said Mark Durheim, general manager for the Alexandria location. "Our premium hot beverages include gourmet specialty coffees from all over the world, as well as Pilot's house coffee, which was named the 'Best Coffee on the Interstate' by the readers of Truckers News. We also have a variety of fountain drinks and fresh-brewed tea."

The new plaza will honor both Pilot's new MyRewards loyalty card and existing Frequent Fueler Advantage cards. "We hope that Alexandria-area residents and fleet customers will enjoy the convenience and amenities of our new Flying J Travel Plaza," said Jimmy Haslam, president and CEO of Pilot Flying J. "As the driver-driven company, we are proud that this travel plaza will serve this community through products and services, as well as contribute to the local economy through jobs and tax revenue. And, we'll fill the needs of those carrying goods to communities across the nation."
