Pilot Opens New Travel Center

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Pilot opened a new travel center Monday off Interstate 81 near Hagerstown, Md. The 11,044-square-foot facility has eight fuel islands, nine diesel islands, a CAT scale and nine showers, The Herald-Mail Online reported.

The new location -- the second Pilot travel center in Washington County -- also includes a McDonald's restaurant, a Subway restaurant, Western Union, an ATM, pay phones, fax services, UPS services, lottery and lotto games, an Airvac, laundry services, an expanded grill area with Oscar Mayer hot dogs and a deli, a company news release stated.

"We hope that Hagerstown-area residents and fleet customers will welcome having our new travel center just around the corner," Jimmy Haslam, president of Pilot Travel Centers, said in a statement. With headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn., Pilot has more than 300 locations throughout 40 states.

The travel center will employ at least 45 workers, according to spokeswoman Ellen Robinson. Craig Killmeyer is general manager of the Hagerstown location.
