Protica Recalls Products Over Possible Health Risk
WHITEHALL, Pa. -- Protica Inc. has undertaken a voluntary withdrawal of four products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that can cause life-threatening illness or death. The recalled products include Body Choice Protein Shots (3-ounce vial), Nutritional Resources Protein Wave gelatin (6-ounce cup), ProBalance Protein to Go French Vanilla Latte (2.5-ounce bottle) and Protein to Go Milk Chocolate Shake (2.5-ounce bottle).
Consumers are warned not to use these products even if they do not look or smell spoiled. Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause such symptoms as general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. It may also cause difficulty in breathing and muscle weakness. No illnesses have been confirmed to date.
The products withdrawn were distributed nationally through retail and direct mail, and are limited to specific lots of the branded products. The problem with the lots was discovered when investigating the processing parameters for all manufactured products.
Consumers who have purchased any of the products can return them to the place of purchase or to Protica for a full refund.
