QuickChek Earns Honors From N.J. Group
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — QuickChek Corp. was named Employer of the Year by Abilities of Northwest Jersey.
The New Jersey-based nonprofit recognized QuickChek for its commitment, dedication and support in providing employment opportunities and making a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities, according to MyCentralJersey.com.
Abilities of Northwest Jersey provides community employment and day program services to more than 300 people with disabilities.
"QuickChek is definitely an equal opportunity employer and not because it is the law but because it is the right thing to do," said Sue Zukoski, chief development officer of Abilities of Northwest Jersey. "And by doing the right thing, they hire qualified employees. We are thankful for QuickChek's belief in an opportunity for all and their willingness to hire persons with disabilities."
Through Abilities of Northwest Jersey's Employment Pathways program, QuickChek has hired employees for various jobs, including coffee host and hostess, general maintenance, food service prep, and beverage stock person. Focusing on their abilities and providing support to make sure they can succeed, team members are encouraged by their store managers to try other jobs. One of the employees from the program went from doing general maintenance to foodservice prep to running a cash register and is now an assistant foodservice manager, according to the report.
"We pride ourselves on giving each of our 3,500 team members the opportunity to grow professionally," QuickChek CEO Dean Durling. "Our mission is to be a great place to work, a great place to shop and a great place to invest. It is part of the core value of our company."
