RedPrairie Acquires SmartTurn, Enhances Warehouse Management Solution
ORLANDO, Fla. -- RedPrairie Corp. completed the acquisition of SmartTurn, a leading on-demand inventory and WMS provider, adding a multi-tenant software-as-a-service (SaaS) WMS to RedPrairie's E2e productivity suite. With the flexibility to provide a WMS solution for any distribution operation, RedPrairie can now also provide increased visibility and collaboration between large distribution operations and their partner hubs that are too small for a traditional WMS, the company reported.
SmartTurn's Inventory and WMS solution, which is running at more than 200 facilities, will be rebranded as RedPrairie's On-Demand WMS and will focus on less complex distribution operations with rapid implementation demands and flexible pricing model requirements.
"The continued growth and emphasis in supply chain execution requires that all companies, regardless of size, have access to technologically advanced inventory and WMS solutions," Mike Mayoras, RedPrairie CEO said in a released statement.
Additionally, the company announced a touch screen packing operations enhancement in the 2010.1 release of its Warehouse Management solution. The new functionality will allow for automated initiation, processing and closeout of packages intended for shipment from a warehouse or distribution center, enabling greater packing efficiency immediately after a product is picked, according to the company.
"In the past, handling inventory shortages, overages, and inaccuracies during the packing stage often required a great deal of time and effort to manage before shipment," Scott Zickert, RedPrairie product manager for distribution products said in a released statement. "For customers that desire an efficient and user-friendly pack process, RedPrairie's new release includes features such as touch screen capabilities with large button layouts for enhanced usability, configurable alerts, blind and prompted modes, suppressed error handling, and easy diagnosis of problems. These features will help the packing operations person to quickly and efficiently perform their job."
Further enhancements to the solution can help accelerate the packing operations process by simplifying the steps the user would perform to pack product from totes or locations into shippable containers. The solution will now provide access to certain pieces of information about a package that can help users solve problems quickly and easily, the company reported.
