Ricker Oil Receives Award for Entrepreneurship

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Jay and Nancy Ricker, owners of Ricker Oil Co. Inc., will receive the 2004 Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur Award from the Chamber of Commerce for Anderson & Madison County and Anderson University in early December.

The Rickers founded the company in Middletown, Ind. in 1979 and purchased their first convenience store in 1989. Since then, the company has moved its headquarters to Anderson, Ind., purchased five oil companies and added approximately 23 convenience stores. In addition, Ricker's is well-known in the region for its "Ricker pop" fountain sales, clean stores and friendly environment and staff.

Ricker's supplies gasoline to 12 independently owned and operated c-stores, and Ricker's marketing department buys for a co-op of 55 locations. The company also opened a bakery last year and a laundry earlier this year.

Jay Ricker serves on the boards of Community Hospital and the Community Foundation, and Nancy Ricker is president of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate and serves on the board of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. Jay has also served as chairman of the board of The Chamber of Commerce.

The company supports several local charities and is also involved in Habitat for Humanity, sponsoring a house each year in a community where it operates a Ricker's store.
