Ricker's Hosts Legislator as Clerk for a Day

CARMEL, IND. — Ricker's Convenience Stores customers may have been surprised by one employee at the retailer's Carey Road store here: U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks.

On May 22, the Republican legislator from Indiana's 5th District served as "Clerk for a Day" at Ricker's as part of NACS, the Association for Convenience & Fuel Retailing's In Store Program. As part of the initiative, Brooks underwent employee training, worked behind the counter and interacted with both employees and customers, according to the company.

The nationwide program affords U.S. legislators the opportunity to gain knowledge and first-hand experience of the convenience and fuel industry by allowing them to work alongside employees. The goal is for the elected officials to return to Congress with a better understanding of the industry and, consequently, be more equipped to make decisions about the legislation that greatly affects it.

"We are honored to have had Congresswoman Brooks visit our store as part of the NACS In Store Program,” said Ricker's founder and Chairman Jay Ricker. "I believe that this experience will truly help to better connect the convenience and fuel retailing industry with Congress."

Anderson-based Ricker's Convenience Stores is a division of Ricker Oil Co. Inc. and operates 52 locations.
