Rutter’s Adds More 'Comfort Food' to Menu

YORK, Pa. — Rutter’s took another step in elevating its fresh-made food program with the launch of loaded mashed potatoes, which use high-quality ingredients to create a signature "comfort food" offering.

Drawing inspiration from restaurants’ mashed potato bars, Rutter’s furthers the idea by leveraging its touchscreen food ordering kiosks to enable customers to choose unlimited combination toppings.

Joining other signature offerings like Rutter's Bada Bing shrimp, crab cake sliders, burgers, tacos and quesadillas, the new loaded mashed potatoes use real potatoes — not powder or pearl dry mix — as the dish’s foundation and give customers the ability to create meals by topping them with premium meats and fresh, simple ingredients.

Rutter’s customers can complete their real mashed potatoes with high-quality meat toppings including bacon, turkey bacon, pastrami, corned beef, fried chicken, grilled chicken or Angus beef meatballs. Then, they can add even more toppings like brown gravy, cheese, sour cream and fresh vegetables.

Loaded mashed potatoes come made to order in two sizes: a single serving or family size. Customers can make them the star of the plate, or add them as a side dish, the retailer noted.

They are the latest addition to Rutter’s potato offerings, which already include classic spuds like French fries and hash browns; unique sandwiches like the cheesy fry and cheesy hash brown wrap; and signature game-day favorites like loaded potato skins topped with combinations of customers’ choosing.

York-based Rutter's is a family-led company that operates 60 convenience stores throughout central Pennsylvania. In 2014, Rutter's became the first U.S. retailer to be honored with the International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award. The company was also recognized in 2014 as a Convenience Store News Foodservice Innovator of the Year.
