Rutter's HQ Doubling to Accommodate Growth

YORK, Pa. — Rutter’s Farm Stores is seeing double.

As part of the convenience store retailer’s strategic plan for growth, Rutter’s is expanding and doubling the size of their headquarters to 23,000 square feet.

This move marks the third expansion of Rutter’s office campus — which sits on a 23-acre farm — this decade. The driving force behind the expansion is new stores, remodels and the change in Pennsylvania laws to allow the sale of wine and beer.

“We have enjoyed strong growth the past few years, and it has necessitated another expansion of our corporate support team to better align with our overall growth,” commented Rutter’s President and CEO Scott Hartman.

The $2-million-plus expansion is expected to be completed in February 2018. Upon completion, the new campus will feature:

  • Room for 50 more office team members;
  • A technology lab;
  • More team recruiting space; and
  • A growing architectural and engineering department.

Rutter’s currently operates 68 stores, with more than 20 stores in some phase of government approval or construction. Each new store employs approximately 50 team members, and the corporate office expansion will enable better support for the expanding base of stores, the company stated.

The c-store retailer recently opened stores in three new Pennsylvania counties: Berks, Lebanon and Blair. It plans to grow into two more states, Maryland and West Virginia, in 2018.

York-based Rutter’s is a family-owned and –operated convenience store chain with roots dating back to 1747.
