Safety First

IRVINE, Calif. -- Tesoro Petroleum, operator of more than 160 retail units, has chosen Westec InterActive to provide remote management and security solutions for its company-owned convenience stores.

Tesoro has initially installed Westec systems in eight Mirastar fueling sites with 2Go convenience stores in Spokane, Wash.

The systems allow the company to remotely manage its sites via closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras and a 2-way audio system that allows Westec's Visual Communication Center (VCC) to be in visual and audio contact with the Tesoro locations.

Trained crisis management specialists, from Westec's VCC, monitor the sites and can prevent potentially volatile or criminal situations by "voicing in" to the store and requesting that would-be criminals leave the store. In some cases, the specialists will contact the local law enforcement officials and keep police informed of the situation as it develops.

"Since the first system has been installed, we've seen a decrease in incidents and our employees feel safer," said Rob Kinnear, general manager of Pacific Northwest retail operations for Tesoro Petroleum. "As Tesoro opens more stores in more communities around the Western United Sates, the company is consistently looking for opportunities where Westec Interactive would fit the needs of both customers and employees."
