Safety First

BIG SPRING, Texas--Alon USA’s Big Spring Refinery was recognized with four National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA) Safety Awards at the NPRA's 2006 National Safety Conference in Austin, Texas.

The refinery was honored with the “Award for Meritorious Safety Performance” for earning a total recordable incidence rate of 0.97 in 2005; the “Gold Award” for achieving a 25.4 percent reduction in the 2005 total recordable incidence rate in comparison to the average for the previous three years; the “Award for Safety Achievement;” and the “Award for Safety Achievement Hours.”

"We're extremely proud of our safety performance and believe that there's nothing more important than the well-being of our employees," said Joe Concienne, Alon’s vice president of refining and transportation. "These awards are the result of the efforts of everyone who works at the Refinery."

Dallas-based Alon USA Energy Inc. operates convenience stores in West Texas and New Mexico under the 7-Eleven and FINA brand names and supplies motor fuels to these stores from its Big Spring refinery.
