Sheetz Chosen as CSNews’ Retailer Innovator of the Year
ALTOONA, Pa. — Sheetz Inc., operator of more than 470 convenience stores in the Mid-Atlantic region and North Carolina, has been selected the 2014 Retailer Innovator of the Year by the editors of Convenience Store News, the convenience store industry’s leading media brand.
Sheetz has been a leader in the c-store industry’s growth in the foodservice arena. This year saw the retailer innovator continue its transformation from a convenience store to a "convenience restaurant."
The editors of CSNews, after polling experts throughout the industry, also chose to honor Sheetz for its leadership in employee wellness, education and empowerment; giving back to the community; store growth (particularly in North Carolina); and innovative retailing concepts such as drive-thrus and its soon-to-open, 15,000-square-foot convenience/grocery store in West Virginia.
“Innovation seems to be embedded in Sheetz’ DNA,” said Don Longo, editorial director of CSNews, a Stagnito Business Information publication. “Even more impressive, this family company has maintained its level of excellence through several generations of management, never taking its eye off the target of serving its customers.”
An exclusive interview with CEO Joe Sheetz will be featured as the cover story of Convenience Store News’ showcase NACS Show issue in October.
