Shell Affiliates Select VeriFone as Strategic POS Provider
VeriFone Inc., the worldwide leader in electronic payment solutions, today announced that it has been selected by Shell Oil Products US and Motiva Enterprises LLC as a strategic provider of point-of-sale (POS) systems. With the recent acquisition of Texaco's downstream business assets, these Shell affiliates market to more than 22,000 petroleum retail locations. The companies are embarking on a nationwide re-branding of their Texaco retail locations that includes standardization of POS equipment at both corporate-owned and wholesale locations.
"By building a modular, evolutionary system with universal connectivity we protect Shell's current investment in POS systems and provide a clearly defined migration path to future functionality," said Bud Waller, vice president and general manager, petroleum systems business, VeriFone Inc. "We provide petroleum retail operators with open, standards-based systems that enable them to maximize the business potential of each and every location."
"Our decision to standardize the POS equipment at all Shell and Texaco retail locations will involve the migration of a large and fragmented installed base," said Sonny Sedate, manager of technology services, Shell Oil Products US. "We are focusing on operational excellence and this standardization is one step in that process."
Sapphire's enhanced connectivity includes car wash, money order sales, and back office scanning systems.
