Shell Expands Fuel Points Program With Fred Meyer, QFC

PORTLAND, Ore. – Shell Oil Co., Fred Meyer Inc. and Quality Food Centers (QFC) are expanding their fuel points program in Idaho, Oregon and Washington State. Starting April 1, consumers in these states will be able to save up to $1 dollar per gallon of gasoline by redeeming fuel points at any Fred Meyer or QFC fuel center, as well as at participating Shell gas stations.

Until now, customers could only redeem 100 fuel points each time they filled up, to save 10 cents per gallon. The expanded program allows customers at Fred Meyer and QFC fuel centers to redeem some or all of their points. If a customer has 400 fuel points, they can redeem 100, 200, 300 or all 400 points for a discount of 10, 20, 30 or 40 cents per gallon, up to $1 off per gallon at the pump if they have at least 1,000 fuel points. The discount will apply to up to 35 gallons of fuel for one vehicle per purchase.

The up-to-$1 per gallon discount is also available at participating Shell stations. Customers will use all their fuel points per transaction at the participating Shell stations, according to the announcement. The 35-gallon limit also applies at Shell stations; other restrictions may apply.

Customers earn one fuel point for every dollar spent on qualifying items when they use their Fred Meyer Rewards Card or QFC Advantage Card. They can also earn 50 fuel points by purchasing eligible prescriptions (patients on Medicare, Medicaid or receiving any other government aid on prescriptions are not eligible for points) and double fuel points for every dollar spent on most third-party gift cards from the in-store gift card malls.

Fuel points are automatically added and are reflected on customers' receipts after every purchase. Points must be used during the month they are earned or by the end of the following calendar month.

"Our customers have continued to tell us that the convenience and price of fuel is an important part of why they shop with us," said Melinda Merrill , spokesperson for Fred Meyer and QFC. "We have worked hard over the past few years to build convenient fuel centers, and we are pleased to offer this added discount to our loyal customers."

Portland, Ore.-based Fred Meyer Stores offers one-stop shopping at 133 multi-department stores in four western states, while Bellevue, Wash.-based QFC operates 67 stores in western Washington and Portland.

"By teaming up with Fred Meyer and QFC, Shell is able to provide customers increased value and savings on their fuel purchases," added Dan Little, North America fuels marketing manager, Shell Oil Products U.S. "And with Fred Meyer, QFC stores and participating Shell stations conveniently located throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington, it's never been easier for these customers to be able to save on high-quality Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines."
