Shell Gives Away $10,000 in Free Gas
GRAPEVINE, Texas -- J.D. Eckland, of Grapevine, Texas, won $10,000 in free gas from Shell Oil Products U.S. and Motiva Enterprises LLC as part of a Shell-brand sweepstakes that ran last month at Dallas/Fort Worth area Shell stations.
Ten finalists for the promotion gathered at a local Shell gas station June 7 to see who would be the winner -- each finalist drew a Shell gas card and then inserted it into the credit card reader in hopes it activated the gas pump.
"I'm leaving on a road trip to Colorado tomorrow in my 1983 280ZX," Eckland said, "And, I'm using my $10,000 in free gasoline from Shell for this trip and every other."
The other $10,000 Gas Giveaway finalists in attendance also walked away happy -- each walked away with a Shell-brand gift card worth $500.
The promotion was held to celebrate the grand opening of several new Shell stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Motiva and Shell are in the process of converting approximately 500 Texaco-branded stations throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area to the Shell brand, as part of the oil company's U.S. rebranding initiative. The two companies plan to convert thousands of their 13,000 Texaco-branded service stations across the U.S. to the Shell brand by June 2004.
