Stater Bros. Entering C-Store Business

COLTON, Calif. -- Stater Bros. Markets is making its way into the convenience store business.

The Southern California chain, which operates 161 supermarkets, will open its first Stater Express Convenience Store in the infield at California Speedway in Fontana. The store is slated to open Thursday, September 1, during the opening of the NASCAR Labor Day Race Weekend.

The fully air-conditioned, 2,400-square-foot store will offer an array of fine quality meats, garden fresh produce, freshly prepared ready-to-eat foods, fresh baked goods, as well as many non-food items, and will also feature special orders.

The store will serve a market of nearly 1,900 reserved RV sites at the speedway. It will be the largest convenience/grocery store in California Speedway history, Stater Bros. reported.

"We are delighted to extend our partnership with the California Speedway by providing the Stater Express Convenience Store for our infield customers at the California Speedway," said Jack H. Brown, chairman and CEO of the Colton, Calif-based company. "Our infield customers will continue to receive the same friendly service and exceptional value that they have come to expect at their local Stater Bros. supermarkets."

Stater Bros. is the "Official Grocery Store of California Speedway" and the title sponsor of the Stater Bros. 300 NASCAR Busch Series race scheduled for February 25.
