Store 24 Focused on Retention

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Store 24 Cos. Inc., which struck a deal earlier this month to be acquired by Tedeschi Food Shops Inc., has implemented computer-based training software from Professional Datasolutions Inc. (PDI) to assist its retention efforts.

The newly implemented software, PDI/Virtual University 2.0, gives The Store 24 tools to improve employee performance, increase job satisfaction and reduce training costs. PDI/Virtual University eases the transition from new hire to well-trained employee, according to Jack McLaughlin, director of information systems for The Store 24.

"This new software is loaded with features designed to improve our store performance. We can now add new employees to our training program at the store level," McLaughlin said. "This allows our stores to begin training the moment a new hire comes through the door, which is a great benefit to us."

By sending courses electronically from corporate office to stores, and tracking employee test results, PDI/Virtual University "reduces our cost for effective training," McLaughlin added. The chain has the training program rolled out to all 82 stores.
