Sunoco, VeriFone Team to Enhance Fueling Experience
PHILADELPHIA — Sunoco Inc. selected VeriFone Systems Inc. as the exclusive media provider for its fuel islands.
San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone will provide Sunoco with dispenser card readers that have integrated video screens and streaming content. The technology will also provide Sunoco's branded retailers with a comprehensive EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) strategy.
"The combination of VeriFone’s indoor/outdoor video experience, our consumer loyalty programs and our forthcoming mobile payments app will provide Sunoco’s consumers with a dynamic two-way communication platform,” said Drew Kabakoff, Sunoco's director of marketing.
Sunoco sought a PCI (payment card industry)-compliant and EMV-ready platform for when consumers are fueling up. With VeriFone's Secure PumpPAY, Sunoco can now provide a mix of advertiser-funded offers, coupons and other content in coordination with the technology provider's VNET — At the Pump media service.
"We applaud Sunoco for being the first in the industry to standardize on EMV- and PCI-compliant solutions across all of its branded locations,” said Jay Parsons, senior vice president of digital media and taxi solutions for VeriFone. “Additionally, its selection of a highly integrated marketing platform will aid each of its branded locations by helping to increase sales and enhance the customer experience.”
Philadelphia-based Sunoco Inc. is a division of Energy Transfer Partners LP. The Sunoco brand of gasoline is available at more than 5,000 locations from Maine to Florida, including more than 600 APlus convenience stores.
