Sunoco Wraps Up Fuel Free 5000 Promotion

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Sunoco Inc. named the winner of its 2011 Fuel Free 5000 promotion, which awarded one lucky customer 5,000 gallons of free gasoline.

Sunoco, the "official fuel of NASCAR," provided millions of its customers with a decal identical to ones on race cars in auto racing's three top series. From June through August, drivers who were spotted with the decal on their cars instantly collected a $10 gift card and earned the chance to win the grand prize. Grand-prize winner Roger Brooks, of Bristol, Tenn., was spotted driving his burgundy van with his son to a Sunoco station in his hometown on July 25. He was among 9,445 Sunoco customers in 21 states who received a gift card.

"Winning the instant $10 Sunoco gas card was great," said Brooks. "You never think you can win a contest like this, but I did. I live in Bristol and fill up and drive by it all of the time. I'm sure glad I needed gas that day."

According to Sunoco, assuming Brooks' vehicle gets 20 miles of usage per gallon, the grand prize will allow him to travel 100,000 miles, which would take about eight years.

"Every year, we continue to see the excitement grow, not only from our customers, but also from our retailers," said Drew Kabakoff, Sunoco brand manager. "This sweepstakes engages customers, supports our retail partners and promotes our relationship with NASCAR at the street level."

Sunoco operates more than 4,900 branded retail locations in 24 states. More than 600 of those are branded APlus.
