Thorntons Execs Break Ground on New Store Support Center
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thorntons Inc. broke ground on a new headquarters Friday, which the company refers to as its Store Support Center.
The $27.8-million building, located off Old Henry Road behind Jewish Hospital Medical Center Northeast in Louisville, is a result of the convenience store retailer’s need to expand its Store Support Center following strong growth. The new location will be approximately double the size (92,000 square feet) compared to the size of Thorntons' current headquarters, with room for expansion as needed, reported Louisville Business First.
“Thorntons is proud to call Louisville its hometown and is dedicated to contributing to the growth and economy of this great city,” the c-store operator said in a statement. “The company is excited to break ground on its new Store Support Center, which will be home to the company’s current team members and will provide space for the company to grow and expand. Thorntons recently announced plans to add 110 jobs in the next 10 years.”
Matt Thornton, CEO, and Tony Harris, president, were both on hand at the groundbreaking event. They were joined by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and other elected officials.
"This store support center will allow us to grow for the next 40 years," Thornton said.
The facility was designed by TEG Architects and will be constructed by Messer Construction Co. Work should be ready to move inside the building by February 2017, the news outlet reported.
Thorntons Inc. operates 185 convenience stores in Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida.
