Toot'n Totum Expands With New Concept

AMARILLO, Texas -- Toot'n Totum President Greg Mitchell revealed the convenience store chain is entering an expansion mode, and will build five new large-format convenience stores here, at a cost of more than $10 million, Amarillo.com reported.

Toot'n Totum, currently operating 61 locations, will launch the expansion in February, which also marks the company's 60th anniversary. Construction should take roughly 16 months, according to the report.

The expansion will add three new stores and completely replace two existing ones, according to the report. A new store design offers two entrances, more parking, different displays, graphics and reimagined canopies for the approximately 16 fueling positions per store, Amarillo.com reported. Additional services at these stores will include car washes, lube centers and check cashing facilities, according to a report on ConnectAmarillo.com.

Environmental technologies will also be explored for use in the design.

"We've done a lot of study," Mitchell told Amarillo.com. "Geothermal heating and cooling is something I'm interested in, and energy consumed while we're open and energy consumed making the materials we use for construction."

Water conservation also is something planners are working on, which covers recycling water in car washes and using more drought-resistant plants in landscaping, according to the report.

"The parameters we set for the expansion were to complete this project using local resources," Mitchell said.

In addition, the expansion will have a sustained effect on the Amarillo economy by employing approximately 85 team members, Mitchell said in the report. "It will also reverberate throughout the community in providing over 80 jobs through the local construction company, as well as providing additional revenue for our vendor partners," he added.
