Town Pump Transitions to Passport POS System Chainwide

BUTTE, Mont. — Town Pump Inc. completed a rollout of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Passport POS system at all 97 of its convenience store locations in Montana.

Town Pump leadership had been searching for a point-of-sale (POS) system that would support evolving credit networks, loyalty programs, enable remote management and provide a foundation for pending changes due to the EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) liability shift.

According to Gilbarco, Butte-based Town Pump preferred the Passport architecture over other systems it evaluated because of the separation of the payment functionality from the POS features, providing a better foundation for the changes coming with EMV.

Passport POS also has a streamlined, easy-to-use touchscreen intended to shorten employee training time and speed up the time it takes to serve customers.

Gilbarco was easily able to complete the conversion from Town Pump's previous POS system, according to the Greensboro, N.C.-based technology provider for retail and commercial fueling operations.
