UDS Honors Gaulin

QUEBEC

Ultramar Diamond Shamrock Corp.'s (UDS) Chairman, President and CEO Jean Gaulin was honored yesterday when the company renamed its flagship Canadian refinery the "Jean Gaulin Refinery."

San Antonio-based UDS, operator of more than 5,000 convenience stores and seven refineries in the United States and Canada with a total throughput capacity of 850,000 barrels per day, said the move was made to honor Gaulin as he prepares to retire next month.

"Known as UDS' flagship Canadian refinery, I believe that we have very aptly renamed the Quebec Refinery for an exceptional honoree," said Jean Bernier, president of Ultramar Ltd., a Canadian subsidiary of UDS. "Jean Gaulin has been a visionary leader for our company and the energy industry. He has played a crucial role in the development and continued success of UDS. Because of his leadership and effort, this facility ranks as one of the safest and most efficient refineries in the world."

The Jean Gaulin Refinery has a throughput capacity of nearly 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day. "I am truly honored to receive my company's recognition and to serve as the namesake for this time-honored, reputable refinery," said Gaulin. "It is especially gratifying to earn the appreciation of my colleagues and neighbors, whose leadership and teamwork are invaluable to the success of UDS."
