United Family Renews Naming Rights for Stadium

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The United Family renewed its naming rights for Texas Tech University's United Spirit Arena through a pledge of $9.45 million. However, the facility will soon be known as United Supermarkets Arena, subject to approval by the University's System Board of Regents.

Under the new agreement, United Family will retain the stadium naming rights through March 31, 2027. The Lubbock-based company secured the original naming rights on the facility in 1996 through a $10-million, 20-year agreement that supported the construction of the arena.

This latest pledge from United Family will be used for renovations on the facilities for Texas Tech volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as improvements to locker rooms, film rooms and training facilities. The funding will also benefit "The Campaign for Fearless Champions," Texas Tech athletic department's ongoing fundraising effort.

“We believe this facility is among the finest venues in the country and enhances not only the student experience at Texas Tech, but the quality of life for West Texans as well," said Robert Taylor, president of United Family. "We’re grateful for our long partnership with Texas Tech and look forward to more new and exciting things in the years to come. We are especially thankful for the incredible support of our guests, who make moments like this possible.”

The United Family is a wholly owned subsidiary of Albertson's LLC and operates 60 stores under the United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express banners, along with ancillary operations R.C. Taylor Distributing, Praters and Llano Logistics.
