Valero Donates $1.2 Million to MDA

SAN ANTONIO -- Topping last year's donation by nearly 30 percent, San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corp. raised almost $1.2 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) during an annual fundraising campaign held in its nearly 1,200 company-operated stores.

During the "Share the Shamrock Spirit" campaign in March, customers could make a donation to MDA at any participating Diamond Shamrock, Valero, Ultramar, Beacon or Total store. For each donation, a paper shamrock featuring the name of the customer was displayed in the store.

"We have a longstanding tradition of supporting the MDA, and we're proud of the more than $7 million we've raised for this worthy cause over the past 17 years," said Bill Greehey, Valero's chairman and CEO. "I'm especially proud of the success of this year's campaign, not only because it reflects the caring spirit and hard work of our store employees and the generosity of our customers, but because the funds raised will be used to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from a neuromuscular disease."

All proceeds raised during the campaign were donated to MDA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing vital services and information to individuals affected by neuromuscular diseases. MDA also funds a summer camp for children battling neuromuscular diseases and supports research aimed at finding cures and treatments.
