Valero Kicks Off Fund-Raiser

SAN ANTONIO -- As part of a nationwide campaign, Valero Energy Corp. recently kicked off its annual Children's Miracle Network fund-raising drive at all participating Diamond Shamrock Corner Store and Stop N Go locations.

Through Dec. 4, customers can purchase a paper "Miracle Balloon" for $1 at participating stores in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas. All of the funds raised will benefit the 36 Children's Miracle Network hospitals located in the communities where Valero has retail stores.

The Miracle Balloon is the symbol of Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout the country. After being purchased, the balloons will then be displayed in the stores during the campaign. Those customers who donate to Children's Miracle Network will receive a buy-one, get-one-free coupon for a 20-ounce bottle of Ozarka water.

"We are proud to be a sponsor of Children's Miracle Network and we're committed to serving the communities where we have business operations," said Gary Arthur, Valero's senior vice president of marketing. "By raising funds for this very worthwhile charity, we can directly help children who are suffering from illness, injury or birth defects and ensure that they have access to the most well-equipped facilities, the most advanced technology and the best care available."

During last year's Miracle Balloon campaign, Valero raised nearly $650,000 for hospitals located in the many communities where it has retail operations. This year, Valero expects to raise a total of $750,000.

Valero Energy operates 12 refineries in the United States and Canada with a combined throughput capacity of approximately two million barrels per day and a branded networ of 4,200 stores.
