Valero Signs on for Alamo Bowl Sponsorship

SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Energy Corp. will be the title sponsor of the Alamo Bowl, a San Antonio post-season college football event, for an additional four years, according to Alamo Bowl officials cited in a San Antonio Business Journal report.

The game will be branded the Valero Alamo Bowl through 2013, and Valero has been a sponsor of the Alamo Bowl since its inception in 1993. Valero became the event's title sponsor in 2007.

"Valero has always believed in giving back to the communities where it does business, and as San Antonio's largest publicly traded company and one of its top employers, we feel it's important to support major events like the Alamo Bowl," Valero Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mike Ciskowski said in the report. He is also a member of the Alamo Bowl board of directors.

The next Alamo Bowl will be played Jan. 2, 2010, in the Alamodome, and will feature teams from the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences.

Over the last 10 years, the Alamo Bowl has generated the second-highest viewership among all the bowl games televised by ESPN, including the 2005 and 2006 Alamo Bowls, which were the No. 4 and No. 1 most-watched bowl games in ESPN history, respectively, according to the report.

"Valero has been a terrific partner since our first year, and we are ecstatic with their decision to renew their title sponsorship," Alamo Bowl President and CEO Derrick Fox said in the report.
