VERC Offers Employment Opportunities to the Blind
DUXBURY, Mass. — VERC Enterprises has partnered with the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) to provide employment and internships for individuals who are legally blind.
VERC has hired one employee and one intern through the MCB with the expectation of bringing on additional individuals in the future who are legally blind, according to Barry Ahern, director of operations and human resources at VERC.
“We are excited about our partnership with the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind,” said Ahern. “It is our hope this ongoing program will provide employment opportunities for many over the years.”
Ray Sponaugle has been hired to work in the VERC Fitchburg Circle K location, where his responsibilities include stocking shelves and cleaning/maintenance. Chichi Omeje has accepted a four- to five-month internship in the VERC Randolph Mobil. With the assistance of a job coach, Omeje will greet customers and perform light cleaning duties.
“MCB is excited to welcome VERC as an employment partner,” commented Paul Saner, commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. “By so doing, VERC is demonstrating to others the full potential of legally blind consumers to do the job.”
Duxbury-based VERC operates convenience stores and gas stations throughout eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
