Vermont Tourism Department Awards Free Gas
MONTPELIER, Vt. – Bob Cassidy of Northborough, Mass. was the first winner in the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing's "Vermont Fuels Your Vacation" sweepstakes. The former state resident won $100 worth of free gas.
Other prizes include three grand prizes of multi-night stays at Vermont's top resorts valued at more than $1,000 and weekly $100 gas vouchers.
Vermont Tourism and Marketing commissioner Bruce Hyde said the free gas will get people's attention and prove how Vermont can "fuel" consumer's vacations. Because it is a constant topic in the media, Hyde said the chance to win free gas will remain a good incentive even if prices drop. Vermont has the seventh lowest gas price in the country at $2.83 a gallon, according to AAA statistics.
"Looking broadly at the cost of a vacation, gas is still one of the smaller expenses that the consumer has to deal with. In reality, however, so much attention has been focused on gas prices, it has become an issue for many consumers and we are trying to address those concerns in a positive way," Hyde said.
