VIDEO: Retail Tips on Disaster Proofing

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Convenience Store News for the Single Store Owner, in cooperation with CBC Learning Center, is making content from CBC's C Square website available to our readers.

C Square, accessible at www.myCsquare.com, is a website specially developed for the advancement of convenience store owners. Part of C Square's offering is professionally produced videos spotlighting critical retail tips.

In this new video, Terry Lambert, an instructor for the CBC Learning Center and a convenience store owner himself, discusses how retailers can prepare their stores for natural disasters. While disasters can come in many forms -- earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wild fires, tsunamis or blizzards -- the key to being protected is planning, he said.

Lambert suggests retailers take the following steps now to prepare: consider purchasing a generator in case of power loss; always keep a back stock of drinking water on hand; ensure emergency exits are clear at all times; designate an interior space where employees and customers can go in case of emergency; and have a first aid kit handy.
