Wawa Breaks Ground in Another Florida Region

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wawa Inc. has been busy building its presence in Central and South Florida, and now the convenience store retailer is getting ready to tackle the northeast part of the state.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa was set to break ground on two locations in the Jacksonville area on April 6. The convenience stores will rise at Town Center Parkway at Gate Parkway and Blanding Boulevard at Filmore Street, according to Jacksonville.com.

Building permit applications and other sources indicate plans are on the board for at least nine additional Wawa stores in the area. The retailer has said it expects to build at least 30 c-stores in the area, the news outlet reported.

Last year, a spokesman said the company plans to open six stores here in 2017, 10 in 2018 and two to four a year after that. In all, Wawa has opened more than 115 stores in Florida since it set up shop in Orlando in July 2012.

Wawa operates more than 730 convenience stores, with more than 500 offering gas, in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
